Multi-state Travel Advisory Issued: Governor Murphy joined New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont in instituting a joint travel advisory that all individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID-19, to quarantine for 14 days.

This quarantine applies to any person arriving from a state with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a state with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average. New Jersey, New York and Connecticut will continually update and publish on their respective websites a list of states to which the new advisory applies. Currently states listed in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. This list of states will be updated regularly. The New Jersey Department of Health will not be legally enforcing the terms of its travel advisory, but instead will be ‘singling out’ non-compliance in general

More Reopenings Announced: This week, governor Phil Murphy announced that New Jersey arcades, bowling alleys, museums, aquariums and other recreational activities can reopen to the public beginning on July 2 as the state continues to add permitted activities ahead of the July 4 weekend.

NJ Medical Cannabis Sales Tax Drops: Sales tax on medical cannabis will drop to 4% on July 1 from its current rate of 6.6%. Last year, Governor Murphy signed the Jake Honig Compassionate Care Act into law, which included a phased elimination of the sales tax on medical cannabis. The sales tax rate will drop to 2% on July 1, 2021 and then be eliminated on July 1, 2022.

New Jersey’s Jobless Rates Continue to Climb: About 33,000 New Jersey residents filed for unemployment last week, another uptick in first-time claims, the state labor department reported Thursday. The total number of New Jersey workers who have applied for unemployment since the coronavirus pandemic began in mid-March is now at 1.3 million.

New Jersey also paid out a record $999 million in benefits to claimants last week. Overall, the state has paid out $8.2 billion in claims since March.

Latest NJ COVID-19 Statistics: The number positive coronavirus test results in New Jersey has increased to a total of 170,196. The number of statewide coronavirus-related deaths is currently 13,018, with an additional 1,854 probable deaths from COVID-19.
