New Jersey Malls to Reopen: This week, Governor Murphy announced that indoor portions of malls will be allowed to operate again starting on Monday, June 29. Capacity will be limited to 50% and common areas – such as food courts and communal seating – will continue to be closed.
“Certainly malls are part of New Jersey culture and lure. We want these businesses to get back up and running responsibly and safely. And we ask everyone who wishes to head out to the mall to comply with the requirements in place – keep your distance, wear a face covering, and follow pedestrian directions,” said Governor Murphy.
28% of NJ’s Labor Force has Filed for Unemployment: The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has released some grim unemployment numbers this week. In the 13 weeks since the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered businesses and sidelined workers, 1.24 million employees, or 28% of the state’s current workforce, have filed for unemployment benefits.
As of June 13, New Jersey has sent $7.2 billion to residents who are either out of work or are working reduced hours.
Visitation Rules Relaxed in Time for Father’s Day: Governor Murphy announced that beginning this Sunday, Father’s Day, the state will allow visitors at designated outdoor spaces at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, dementia care homes, pediatric transitional care homes and comprehensive personal care homes throughout the state.
Wawa Reaches 900th Store Milestone in Springfield, NJ: This week, Wawa Inc. celebrated the opening of its 900th store with a ribbon cutting event at their newest location – 685 Morris Turnpike in Springfield. Springfield Mayor Chris Capodice welcomed Wawa to the neighborhood by personally congratulating the team and building the first ceremonial hoagie.
LeFrak gives $100k to Jersey City Medical Center Foundation for COVID-19 Relief: The Lefrak family, principal partners in the Newport development in Jersey City, has donated $100,000 to the Jersey City Medical Center Foundation, in an effort to support the hospital’s ongoing efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We believe it is our duty as a good corporate citizen to do everything possible to support the hospital now more than ever,” said Jamie Lefrak, vice chairman of LeFrak and former board member of JCMC.
Latest NJ COVID-19 Statistics: The number positive coronavirus test results in New Jersey has increased to a total of 168,496. The number of statewide coronavirus-related deaths is currently 12,835.
