In recent years, New Jersey public charter schools have increasingly become a target of special interest organizations that support the educational status quo. These opponents have called for a halt on charter school growth and advocated for a reduction in State funding. RCSG helps lead the government affairs, lobbying, communications and advocacy programs for New Jersey’s charter school sector.
To help counter well-funded and well-organized political opposition, RCSG helps organize charter school lobby days in Trenton that average over 200 parent participants. Parents, advocates and stakeholders regularly attend and participate in legislative and administrative hearings on public education and charter school issues. RCSG plays a key role in securing guest speakers and meetings with lawmakers, recruiting parents to attend, and developing messaging and engaging media.
As a result of this broad-based advocacy, legislative moratorium on charter school expansion has stalled and funding for pubic charter schools has remained consistent. Today, charter schools throughout New Jersey continue to thrive and grow to meet skyrocketing enrollment demand from parents and students in some of New Jersey’s most challenging school districts.
