River Crossing Strategy Group are seasoned problem-solvers who understand the nuances that enable successful outcomes. We have proven experience managing large-scale projects, implementing far-reaching changes at government agencies, and creating and carrying out strategic plans that achieve demonstrable results in difficult circumstances.
Eric Shuffler is the principal and founder of River Crossing Strategy Group. Previously, he served as Counselor, chief policy adviser and speechwriter to New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey and Dick Codey. In these positions over two consecutive Administrations, Eric was a senior adviser managing key policy initiatives and strategic functions of the Governor’s office.
Eric also served as Chief of Staff at the New Jersey Department of Transportation and was the Director of the New Jersey Office of Recovery and Victim Assistance after the 9/11 terrorist attacks where he led the State’s efforts to assist families and secure federal recovery dollars. Before coming home to New Jersey, Eric spent ten years in Washington, DC with his last position being Chief of Staff to United States Senator Bob Torricelli.
Eric was named to Governor Phil Murphy’s 2018 Transition Leadership Team as a Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications and was called "a longtime New Jersey political insider with strong relationships across the state” by the State’s leading political website.
Eric oversees all of River Crossing’s client strategy and interactions and specializes in applying his tactical and substantive expertise to solve complex governmental issues. His background is in public policy and communications and he has extensive experience in developing communications programs and building coalitions to advance policy objectives. He has significant bi-partisan, high level legislative and Gubernatorial relationships in the Statehouse and throughout New Jersey. He believes deeply in the value of personal and regular client communication as part of an effective lobbying partnership.
Eric graduated from the University of Michigan and cum laude from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University where he went to school in the evenings while working on Capitol Hill.
Eric has appeared on the Politickernj.com Power 100 List and was recognized in Insider NJ's 2017 Insider 100: Policymaker's Edition.
He is passionate about his family, his wife Amy and two sons, Madden and Brody, coaching little league baseball, serving as the PTA President at his son’s public school and the Mets and Giants.

Danielle Alpert joined River Crossing Strategy Group in 2013. Utilizing her bipartisan relationships at the state and local levels, she helps clients through the complexities and pitfalls of New Jersey’s legislative and political landscape. In addition to delivering high quality assistance for clients’ legislative and regulatory needs, she also provides counsel on strategic communications.
Danielle is committed to improving educational options for all New Jersey students and leads RCSG’s extensive education practice. Danielle has a considerable network among stakeholders and governmental officials in the education space and she serves on the New Jersey Council for Young Children, which functions as the State’s advisory council for early care and education.
Beyond her work in education, Danielle has specialized expertise in land use, business, and economic development issues. She has worked on successful complex redevelopment projects, which required multi-agency and multi-government coordination and strategic advice. Danielle is a committed and dedicated advocate for her clients and embodies the River Crossing Strategy Group approach of client accessibility and meaningful political insight and engagement.
Prior to joining River Crossing Strategy Group, Danielle served as Assistant Government Affairs Director to the New Jersey Association of Realtors®, one of the Garden State’s largest trade associations. In this position, she ushered bills through the legislative and regulatory processes, assisted in the development and implementation of a public affairs strategy, and helped manage the association's political giving.
Danielle also worked in the Legislature, serving as Deputy Communications Director for the Assembly Minority Office. In this capacity, she helped develop and coordinate political messaging for a variety of Republican lawmakers. She served as Chief of Staff to former Senator Jennifer Beck. Danielle has also worked on numerous political campaigns, including working on several races for Senator Declan O ‘Scanlon.
She has been named several times to Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg’s New Jersey Women’s Power List.
A proud Montana native, Danielle graduated from the University of Montana with her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. She has close ties to Monmouth and Ocean Counties and lives at the Jersey Shore with her husband and their two daughters. She is a foodie and an avid concert goer.

Doug has extensive experience guiding both governmental agencies and private entities through complex legislative and regulatory processes. At River Crossing Strategy Group, Doug has successfully worked the legislative process to help numerous client bills get signed into law. He has a wealth of bi-partisan legislative and staff-level relationships cultivated over a decade of serving in senior positions both in and out of government. He helps to lead the firm’s renewable energy practice and is passionate about working on economic development and transportation issues at the local and state level.
Doug was raised in Middlesex County and it’s where the roots of his interest and passion for government, advocacy and political campaigns took hold and were developed.
Before joining the firm in 2008, Doug worked as the Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs for New Jersey's largest and most influential statewide transportation advocacy association, where he was at the forefront of lobbying initiatives related to the Transportation Trust Fund and infrastructure funding.
Doug previously served as the legislative liaison for Governors McGreevey and Codey and for former State Treasurer John McCormac. He is a veteran of multiple gubernatorial campaigns throughout the country and was previously employed as a public affairs associate for a prominent governmental affairs consulting firm.
Doug is a proud Rutgers University Alum. His greatest joy in life is spending time with his daughter. He loves sports and is passionate about soccer, whether it is playing the game or following his favorite club, Manchester United. He’s a devoted viewer of Game of Thrones and can quote movie lines on everything from Caddyshack to The Godfather.

Timothy White is a veteran New Jersey lobbyist and public affairs executive specializing in managing comprehensive issue advocacy campaigns for complex governmental initiatives.
Tim helps real estate development and public utility projects secure local government approvals and builds statewide coalitions to influence policy and legislation in Trenton. He works with leading technology companies to develop and implement new, local and state-level regulatory policies for emerging industries and is well known for his advocacy work on education reform and marijuana legalization issues.
Tim is the Chairman of the Board for the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce and is the Public Affairs Coordinator for the New Jersey Cannabis Industry Association. He serves on the New Jersey City University Foundation Board and is a Commissioner on the Paramus Golf Commission. Tim is a former Board member of the New Jersey Charter Schools Association.
Prior to joining RCSG, Tim founded and led the public affairs practice at Beckerman, served as Vice President at MWW Group and was a political consultant, communications director and campaign manager for several statewide, legislative, county and municipal campaigns for elected office. He served as Special Assistant to Bergen County Executive William “Pat” Schuber, as Special Assistant to Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham, as Political Director for the New Jersey Republican State Committee in 2004 and served on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s transition team in 2013.
Tim earned a bachelor’s degree from New Jersey City University and a master’s degree from the Public Administration Institute at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Tim enjoys golf, distance running, painting and spending time with his wife Ani and his two daughters Sevana and Siena. He is a New York Red Bulls season ticket holder since 2013, is a fan of Chelsea FC, the New York Jets and the New York Yankees.

Maddy joined River Crossing Strategy Group in 2019 after serving as Policy Advisor to Governor Phil Murphy. While serving in the Murphy Administration, Maddy focused on energy, environment, and agriculture issues. She brings extensive experience working with an array of individuals and entities, developing solutions to complex policy challenges. Maddy's experience working alongside members in the executive branch, with legislative leaders, and with external stakeholders have set her up for success in her role with RCGS.
Maddy also worked in a government relations role for New Jersey's largest environmental nonprofit, where she managed a multi-state coalition of non-governmental organizations and led federal advocacy efforts, including authorizing and securing funding for a new conservation program. Additionally, Maddy served in the office of an U.S. Representative, worked for a small firm representing local governments with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects, and spent four years at The College of New Jersey managing coalitions focused on criminal justice and recidivism in Trenton.
Maddy was raised in Bergen County and attended The College of New Jersey for her undergraduate education, where her passion for government, politics, and public service was translated into real-life experiences. During her studies, Maddy served as an intern to then-Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman and joined her staff as a Legislative Research Aide upon graduation.
Maddy is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her Masters in Public Administration. She lives in Lambertville, NJ with her husband, son, and two dogs, and is proud to serve as Councilwoman on the City Council. Maddy loves hiking along the Delaware Raritan canal path and enjoying time with friends and family.
